The Batten Institute for Entrepreneurship, Innovation and Technology is the heart of entrepreneurship at the UVA Darden School of Business. Founded in 1999 by a $60 million gift from Frank Batten Sr., the Institute drives UVA's flagship venture programs and entrepreneurial education.
The i.Lab Incubator provides structured venture acceleration with dedicated workspace, expert mentorship, network access, and demo opportunities for student and alumni ventures. It is the primary incubator program at Darden.
Additional Batten Institute programs include Entrepreneurship Through Acquisition, the Batten Scholars program, Venture Velocity course, Tech Learning Series, and the Jefferson Innovation Summit. The Institute also co-hosts the UVA Entrepreneurship Cup.
Focus areas span Entrepreneurship for All, Innovation in Action, and Empowering Tech Journeys, reflecting the Institute's mission to equip students of all ages to lead with an entrepreneurial mindset.
