George Mason University is a member of the NSF I-Corps Mid-South Region Hub, established in 2023 and led by Vanderbilt University. The Hub spans four states and includes Vanderbilt, George Mason University, University of Virginia, University of Tennessee Knoxville, Tennessee State University, Meharry Medical College, Jackson State University, University of Kentucky, and University of Louisville.
Mason trains up to 30 I-Corps Site Teams per academic year. Each team consists of an entrepreneurial lead (student or postdoc), an academic lead (faculty or staff), and a mentor (who may be a non-Mason affiliate). Teams use the Lean Launchpad curriculum and are eligible for the national I-Corps Team program, which provides $50,000 grants.
The program focuses on translating STEM research into commercialized ventures with an intentional emphasis on inclusive innovation. Faculty and students from any discipline may participate.
