The Rice Innovation Fellows program equips Ph.D. students and postdoctoral researchers to commercialize lab research into scientist-led ventures. Launched in 2022 as a President DesRoches initiative and hosted by Lilie, fellows receive $10,000 in equity-free translational research funding, dedicated time (one day/week buyout), coworking space, and tailored mentorship. Alumni ventures have raised $25M+ in funding and entered programs including Activate, Chain Reaction Innovations, and TMC Cancer Therapeutics Accelerator.
