The Boyd Venture Challenge is the Anderson Center's annual spring seed-funding competition. The program page says it awards $50,000 in non-dilutive startup capital, with individual grants up to $25,000. Students pitch in person after judges review applications. The competition is funded by UT System President Randy Boyd and other center donors.

The spring 2026 news article says the competition is open to the entire UT System for the first time, including every undergraduate and graduate campus.

    Application and Timing

The page says applications open during the spring semester and that selected teams pitch in person. The captured pages do not list the 2026 pitch day. Executive summaries are limited to two pages.

    Participants

Undergraduate and graduate students across the UT System. The applicant must hold majority ownership. The business must be a corporation, LLC, or partnership with a federal tax ID. The page also says a sole proprietorship with a business license has been allowed to apply in the past, but since the 2020 cycle a sole proprietor must form an LLC or S corporation before receiving funds. Applicants invited to pitch must show traction such as revenue, a recommendation, a purchase order, a memorandum of understanding, or participation in a program such as I-Corps. Past winners may reapply if they show how earlier funds were used.

    Funding and Equity

The page calls the capital non-dilutive. Individual grants are up to $25,000, inside a $50,000 total. The center says it will help sole proprietors form an entity before funds are paid.
